Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be a citizen of a developing country that is a World Bank member (check the official list).
  • Not hold dual citizenship of a developed country.
  • Be in good health.
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) earned at least three years before the application deadline.
  • Have at least three years of full-time, paid work experience in a development-related field (part-time experience may be considered).
  • Be employed in development-related work at the time of application.
  • Have received unconditional admission (except for funding) to one of the 41 participating master’s programs at an eligible university, located outside the applicant’s country of residence and nationality.
  • Not be a World Bank employee or a close relative of a World Bank staff member.
  • Not have previously received or declined the JJ/WBGSP scholarship.

Application Process

The application process is divided into two rounds:

  • Application Window 1: January 13 – February 28, 2025 (12:00 noon EST).
  • Application Window 2: March 25 – May 23, 2025 (12:00 noon EST).

How to Apply:

  1. Ensure you meet all eligibility criteria.
  2. Apply for unconditional admission to a participating master’s program at one of the 24 universities.
  3. Once admitted, the university will shortlist eligible candidates and provide them with the scholarship application link.
  4. Complete and submit the JJ/WBGSP online application before the deadline.
  5. Provide all required documents, including proof of admission, work experience certificates, and reference letters.

Selection Criteria

The World Bank scholarship committee assesses applicants based on:

  • Work experience quality – 30%
  • Strength of recommendations – 30%
  • Commitment to home country’s development – 30%
  • Academic background – 10%
